Dartmoor Orangery
Situated on the edge of rural Dartmoor, this detached, former mining cottage is a tranquil home with a spectacular garden to the rear of the property. To take full advantage of their available space, our client wanted to add a classic orangery complete with full bi-folding doors, creating a seamless garden and living space.
Classic style
With access to full architectural plans, we custom-designed both a bespoke 6-leaf set of bi-fold doors and a selection of fixed and opening flush casement windows. Using sustainably-sourced Accoya timber for durability and stability, each window and door unit had been classically styled and handcrafted to precise measurements and hand-fitted with energy-efficient double-glazing.
Despite the cottage already having plenty of character as a result of extensive refurbishment over the years, we were also commissioned to produce a bespoke set of flush casement windows and door for a front-elevation extension.
The desire to complement the original architectural style was essential–as was the need for thermal efficiency and security–to meet specific building regulations. The final designs featured bespoke, fine arched glazing bar detailing to the top of the casements.
With the windows and front door using the same process of timber beading being applied, with an inset spacer bar within the double-glazed unit, we were able to create harmony and aesthetic synergy between them and the existing windows.
A custom finish
As well as custom designing and handcrafting each window and door, we also have our own in-house spray room, giving us the ability to create a specific colour finish for our clients. This proved invaluable to the project as we confidently matched to the existing colour scheme for a uniform appearance.
As a final finish, the client chose their own ironmongery for both doors and windows. Their ultimate choice was based on personal taste while also complementing their existing interior decor and their home’s period style.
Beyond expectations
Working closely with our client and their on-site contractors, who managed the orangery and extension build, we kept the process as stress-free as possible for them. As such, we exceeded their expectations in giving them the handcrafted windows and doors they dreamed of as part of their open-plan living space.
