Our People
Nathan McCarter
Founder and Owner | Joiner
As the driving force behind Nathan McCarter Joinery, Tavistock born and bred Nathan has a strong background in fine furniture. With a full City & Guilds apprenticeship, he started his career as a talented furniture and cabinet maker and wood machinist with a very obvious eye for detail.
Using these skills to fine effect over the years, Nathan continues to strive for the best in his work and accepts nothing less. Putting his heart and soul into the business, his priority is to give every customer a unique service unavailable anywhere else and creating handcrafted windows and doors to match.
Outside of the joinery business, Nathan is a big F1 fan, a keen amateur squash player, and an on-call firefighter with the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
Dan Gilbury
Production Manager | Machinist
Working with Nathan for over 10 years, Dan has played an important part in the success of Nathan McCarter Joinery and has been there to see the business go from strength to strength. With a full Level 2 Diploma in Bench Joinery, Dan’s knowledge and skill take every customer’s project from initial machining to the final finish before it leaves the workshop as a quality, handcrafted piece.
An enthusiastic darts man, Dan is keen to step up to the oche at every opportunity for a few sets of 501, but with two small children, those opportunities don’t come around as often as he’d like!
Tom Sherrell
Office and HSE manager
Having been with us for a number of years in different roles, Tom is now one of our experienced workshop joiners and on-site fitters. With a solid grounding in all our processes, Tom’s skills, knowledge, and understanding are essential in providing our customers with excellent service.
When he’s not joining or fitting with us, he’s kept busy at home with his two children, and enjoys cricket and catching up with friends – when he has time! Tom also joins Nathan in being an on-call firefighter with the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
Aidan Hall
Joiner / Supervisor
Aidan initially joined us for work experience, but he impressed us so much he later joined us on a full-time basis as a joiner.
As a Liverpool FC fan, Aidan loves his sport and you’ll spot him either playing football or running to keep fit. But he also slows down a bit to enjoy relaxing walks with family and friends.
Leonardo Worth
Apprentice Joiner
Working as a labourer for a builder and carpenter certainly gave Leonardo the potential we were looking for, as an apprentice joiner. Using the skills he learned previously means he’s a real asset to NMJ.
When he’s not learning his trade with our team, he’s honing his tactical skills, skirmishing with his Airsoft team, getting muddy on his dirt bike, or creating recipes, sometimes using too much spice!
Mark Ryder
Carpenter / Fitter
Mark joined us as an onsite fitter with multiple skills to his name. With seven years in the RAF plus 15 years of experience scaffolding and then owning his own business, we knew Mark had what it takes to work in a skilled, customer-facing role that often includes working under pressure.
To let off steam, Mark lives for family holidays with his wife and three kids. But when he’s at home, you can find him taking his son to the footy or settling down to watch 50+ laps of F1 racing.
Ruben Bickle
Joiner
Ruben hit the ground running as our apprentice joiner. Keen to work with his hands and even keener to learn, he’s come a long way since his previous role at Tesco, and now completed his apprenticeship, he’s a great addition to NMJ.
Outside of cutting and shaping timber for our windows, you’ll often find Ruben out on the ocean surfing or playing a quick back nine or a full 18 holes on the local golf course.
Felicity McCarter
Office Manager
Making sure Nathan McCarter Joinery runs smoothly, Felicity has worked behind the scenes in the business for over 13 years. Knowing the business inside out, Felicity is crucial to business development while overseeing all office administration and is the key to our efficiency and organisation.
Outside the office, she’s Mum to Harry and Lavinia (Vinnie for short) and enjoys the outdoors, long walks and catching up with her family and friends. She’s also keen on doing a bit of gardening and hopes to get that vegetable patch started one day.
Katie Bolt
Lead Estimator
Katie is our part-time office administrator. Giving essential support to Felicity, she also plays a key role in the day to day running of the office. She’ll also often be your first point of contact when you email, call, or visit us.
Katie’s partner, Dan, is our Production Manager and together they have two children. But when she’s not in the office, you’ll either find Katie working in the local shop or, if she ever manages to get any spare time, out enjoying the moors or at home honing her baking skills.
